What is humidity
Air is a mixture of various gases, particularly nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapor.
At standard temperature (0° C-30° C), the amount of water present in the air as vapour is only a few grams per cubic meter. When water the vapor contained in the air reaches the highest possible level, air becomes saturated, i.e. it has the 100% relative humidity.
This maximum amount of water vapour present in the air, i.e. the saturation condition, varies according to the different temperatures: it’s about 4 grams per cubic meter at 0° C and 24 grams at 25° C.
The humidity of a room is the ratio between the amount of water vapor contained in the air and the amount that this would contain (at the same temperature), if it were saturated, i.e. in a state of 100% relative humidity. This relationship is expressed as a percentage. We could say that if at 25° C, 1 cubic metre of air contains 24 grams of water vapor, one cubic meter of air with 50% R.H., at the same temperature, will contain 24 x 50/100 = 12 grams of water vapor.
THE R.H. in a room should be between 40 and 65%. Lower values, possible during the winter in heated rooms, could cause some problems: sore throat, damage to electronic equipment, vegetable, fruit and paper dehydration. In these cases, it may be necessary to humidify the environment.
However, often the most difficult problem to solve is the opposite, i.e. an excess of humidity in the air. A high relative humidity 70-75%, can cause major problems in the long run:
- proliferation of microorganisms like fungi and bacteria, with the resulting odours;
- condensation on cold surfaces such as stained glass windows, floors and walls;
- feeling of physical discomfort, especially when combined with high temperatures, which is characterized by profuse sweating, blood pressure changes, etc.;
- increase in respiratory diseases and rheumatic problems;
- wood appliances deformation;
- deterioration of organic substances such as paper, food, vegetables, fruits, etc.;
- malfunction and damage to electronic and mechanical devices.
Fral’s industrial dehumidifiers
The Fral industrial dehumidifiers of the series FD are suitable for humidity control in commercial and industrial spaces. Particularly sturdy and durable, they can be easily installed and are easy to maintain. They can also be placed in environments for the preservation of food products or in industrial processes where humidity control is necessary.
They feature a washable air filter and must be connected to a fixed drain. They are equipped with an onboard mechanical dehumidostat. Is it possible to connect a remote digital dehumidostat. The Fral fixed dehumidifiers of the series FD can be equipped with an optional HOT GAS defrosting system, with electronic and thermostatic control, and can work with temperatures close to 0 °C.
FD models have a structure with aluminium profiles and panels in sturdy galvanised sheet, painted with epoxy powder ensuring high resistance to atmospheric agents and aggressive environments. Evaporator and condenser have the coil made of copper pipes and aluminium fins.
The FD TCR series fixed dehumidifiers are high-performance appliances. They are equipped with external condenser which enables dehumidification coupled with cooling, controlling humidity and temperature at the same time. They feature a washable air filter and must be connected to a fixed drain. They are equipped with an onboard mechanical dehumidostat. It should always be associated with a digital thermostat. The TCR series of dehumidifiers can be equipped with an optional Hot Gas defrosting system, with electronic and thermostatic control, and can work with temperatures close to 0 °C. Defrosting cycles, compressor timer and alarm card are controlled by microprocessor and the dehumidifier is equipped with step sequence control.
FD series meet a wide range of technical standards: directives of the European Community 2006/95/EC on the safety of electrical products for use in Low Voltage; 2004/108/EC in the field of electromagnetic compatibility and 2006/42/EC in the fields of machinery safety.
